Checking for signs of damp
Homeowner’s across the United Kingdom often face the common problem that their property is left susceptible to water ingress due to severe temperatures and harsh weather conditions. Blockage of rain gutters is a common problem that home-owners are often faced with, the removal of leaves and gunk is not glamorous nor is it entertaining, but a necessity to ensure rainwater can run freely from your home. Failure to do so will prevent your property from being watertight, increasing the risk of water ingress.
Problems such as cracks and crevices on the outside in masonry can also leave openings for penetrating damp. This can potentially result in excessive dampness appearing on the inside. But do not fear; the earlier the identification of such problems, the easier it is to rectify and the less it may potentially cost you to fix. There are several ways in which the decay and damage of a properties fabric can generate excessive dampness. Driving snow or rain may have crept between the hairline cracks on rendered walls, window frames, or through decayed brickwork. So, take a good look around the interior and exterior of your property. Search for any dark murky stains on walls, ceilings and floors. Investigate any flaking paint around your window or cracks in the brick work. Minimal damage can usually be resolved through minor effort such as an extra coat of paint, however if a damp problem has progressed into an advanced state, it may be worth thinking about using a masonry protecting solution.

Everyone loves a shed! Whether it’s a shack to fix those squeaky hinges and broken door knobs or a place for you to unwind and do some pottery. Sheds are a valuable asset to every property as they not only offer an escape from the pressures of daily life but a beautiful addition to the appearance of a garden. Maintaining the structural integrity of your shed is not a one day job but a continuous effort; sheds are obviously more susceptible to damage compared to one’s home, therefore some care and attention cannot go a miss. The most common problem shed owners face is the deterioration of roof fabric. There are two main types of felt that you can invest in, Sand Felt and Mineral Felt. Like most things in life, you get the quality you pay for; Sand Felt is useful however may become vulnerable to damage over time. Mineral roofing on the other hand is much tougher and thicker and can guarantee longevity over the years to come.
